N.S.: The music that accompanies each Huston is Max Steiner’s theme music to Treasure.

The nominees were clearly under strict orders that year not to lollygag in ascending or descending the podium, or in their acceptance speeches.

The host was the splendid actor-director-producer Robert Montgomery, who was a great American. Montgomery was a hero in peace—helping thwart a mafia takeover of MGM during the 1930s, war—fighting the Japs and Gerries as a Navy PT Boat and landing craft commander—and again in peace, helping thwart the vast, Communist conspiracy.
