    (SF Gate.com)Jan. 10, 10:15 a.m. An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.5 hit near the San Francisco Zoo at 9:39 a.m., shortly after a larger one that struck earlier Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

    The aftershock, which had a depth of about 4.7 miles, was 3 miles northwest of the zoo, the same location as the magnitude 3.7 quake that occurred just after 7 a.m.

    San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie released a statement on X assuring San Francisco residents that the city is “safe in the event of a natural disaster.”
