Review of The Camp of the Saints by Jean Rapail (1925-2020)

Here is an interesting and well-written review of The Camp of the Saints. It’s interesting because it frames the review in terms of White Nationalism - that is, preservation of the White race.

Over the years, I have come to understand that attacks against Whites are proxies for attacks against Western Civilization. Leftists accuse Whites of being systemically racist, and by various agendas, attempt to fracture and dismantle Western Civilization in order to replace it with some ill-conceived globalist socialist utopia.

Another way of viewing this conflict is that the Marxists have abandoned battle along class lines because in Western Societies, the working classes have prospered and see little reason to revolt. It is now framed as a battle between oppressed races and Whites who dominate them.

I think that connection is naively ignored by well-meaning liberals who wallow in self-imposed guilt regarding the success of their race. Johnson touches on this in his review. Here is a short excerpt from the review:

---

“it was easy to profess such altruistic views toward non-whites when there was little danger of having to live by them. in fact, in modern society, professing racial altruism is in one’s self-interest. it is so lavishly rewarded that people compete to write ever larger checks that society can never cash.

“when, however, the time to pay up loomed, three groups emerged. the first group consisted of those who believed in white guilt and would follow the logic of their ideas into the abyss. These were the people who rushed to the coast. the second and largest group consisted of those who rejected white guilt, or at least rejected its most destructive consequences, but feared to do so openly. these were the people who fled. the third and smallest group consisted of those who openly rejected white guilt root and branch. these were the people who fought, until the French government sent the military to destroy them - while turning a blind eye to murder, rape, and general delinquency, as long as they were committed by non-whites.

Readers of The Camp of the Saints find the two-tier, anti-White justice systems in Western countries quite familiar.

  1. The analysis is very sound. The worst part of any civil war might be Whites having to kill Whites because of politics.

"Confusing" understates the description of the possibilities in any sequel to the one that occurred circa 1865. You KNOW that blacks are the enemy, but the commie Whites will be difficult--unless they're wearing dresses and have adorned themselves with blue and green hair.

  2. I recall reading an article based on an interview with Jean Raspail, who said that he had originally intended the invading flotilla to be filled with Africans rather than Indians, but thought that his novel wouldn't be accepted for publication in that form.
