Day 2 of the Laken Riley murder trial has concluded.
The suspect’s cell phone was placed “very close” to Laken Riley at the time of her death.
A prosecuting attorney told the judge the state intends to rest the case sometime on tuesday. An attorney for Jose Ibarra said the defense team has less than half a day of testimony planned from witnesses.
Move over,Pedro and Julio--we just got word--Jose's your new roomie on Thursday.

Pssst, Ibarra, run the Arbery offense even though you're on defense: "I'm a jogger of colour", Did the murder on Feb. 22, just one day before Ahmaud Arbery Day. Tough to pull off without the Crump sleaze machine and media cheerleading. Oh well. At least they got this trial rolling less than one year after the crime. MTG and Mike Collins both twOOted for the death penalty, according to this Newsweek piece. Surprising that Newsweek (1) still exists (2) provides a "Fairness Meter" for readers to rate the article. And (3) Eleanor Clift is still alive, though long since departed from Newsweek.
ReplyDeleteElsewhere - St. Helens, Oregon - teacher and [suspected, I'm supposed to put the word suspected in here] paedophile says "I'm the Mexican American parent of two non-binary kids."
ReplyDeleteHuh! Who ever would have.... um.... "suspected"... that configuration? It even took the cops MONTHS of investigation.
PROSECUTION RESTS IN DANIEL PENNY TRIAL
ReplyDeleteSummary from various news outlets(including abc7 and fox news).
GRA:Dr.Cynthia Harris wrapped up three days of testimony Monday, during which time she referred to the incident as "a homicide"--which was then stricken from the record--after an objection by Daniel Penny's attorney.
Other evidence given, during the eight days of testimony by prosecution witnesses included :Jordan Neely had drugs in his system--most likely cocaine--though dr.harris' listed cause of death for Neely--asphyxiation--was declared before toxicology reports came back. It was also revealed that Neely had sickle cell syndrome, which dr.harris rejected as being a contributor in the cause of death.
Defense witness testimony started late Monday and is expected to end by Thanksgiving.
My opinion: When the medical examiner is onboard with the prosecution in such an unabashed manner,it makes the case difficult for the defense to win. Their opinion carries a lot of weight--even if it's erroneous in its conclusion(see Chauvin case).

ReplyDelete"Diego Ibarra, the brother of the defendant, Jose Ibarra, was called to the witness stand by the defense but did not testify Tuesday amid discussion about his attorney's advice."
Diego Ibarra is in federal custody for possession of a fraudulent document.
The prosecution rested after calling 25 witnesses over three days.
The defendant, speaking through a translator, declined to testify.
