The press conference is underway. Here’s the story.
Just before 2 p.m., the assassin was waiting for the President, about two holes ahead of where he was playing. The secret service saw a rifle sticking out of a tree and engaged with the perp. He somehow got away, got into his car and because a witness saw the car (a black nissan) and photographed the license plate, police later apprehended him on the highway.
An ak-47 weapon was recovered at the golf course.
Ryan Wesley Routh is the name of the assassin. He’s 58.

The President was actually 300-500 yards away from the shooter when secret service saw the rifle poke out of the bush/tree.

Just my opinion, but the media(abc) doesn't look very happy with reporting the assassination attempt, figuring Trump will get some sympathy because of this near tragedy.
ReplyDeleteMedia is not unhappy with the attempt, but the ramifications,of it, on the election.Again, just my interpretation of the mood of Lindsey Davis and the other reporters.

Wonder why the media always seems to call assassins by three names--Lee Harvey Oswald. etc.
ReplyDeleteRECAP OF THE LATEST TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT
ReplyDelete(ZH)Shots were exchanged between a shooter and Secret Service at Trump International Gold Club as the former President played.
Trump was 300-500 yards away when the shooting occurred.
FBI confirmed they are investigating this as an assassination attempt.
Trump said after: "nothing will slow me down, I will never surrender."
The shooter has been detained.
An AK-47, backpack, and GoPro camera was recovered near the scene.
The shooter has been identified as Ryan Routh, whose social media suggest was a Trump-hating, Ukraine-war-supporting liberal.
Trump was NOT given complete perimeter protection, because he is not a sitting president (despite being hit by an assassin's bullet a couple of months ago)

Update (1615ET): The FBI issued a statement :
“The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.”

The former president has issued a statement confirming he is "safe and well" and declaring "nothing will slow me down"...

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says that because Trump is not the sitting president that he is not given complete perimeter protection, even though someone shot him just a couple months ago
He said if Trump was president then law enforcement would take protecting him more seriously.
