My grandpa did! He was lean, in his early sixties, and at least 6’0” tall. I was a little kid. Grandpa let me try and push it. I couldn’t. Not an inch. (I seem to recall it being on the rusty side, but that didn’t stop Grandpa.)
I THINK I still have one in the garage from the 60s and even early 70s.I don't think my folks got rid of it,just stored it in the back--I'll have to check.Tell me it's worth $10,000.

ReplyDeleteI remember the old push mower well, our front lawn had a hilly portion that made it easy to mow downward, but then I had to push it back up! Our first gas mower was like a gift from heaven, it was like torture mowing with that old thing.
Funny thing is, push mowers have kind of come back. Reason is that large yards with lots of grass have gone out of vogue with a lot of new construction. Many tiny homes or row type houses have postage stamp sized yards that still need mowing and when you've got a 10 X 10 sized backyard, it's easier to use a push mower rather than deal with the fueling, maintenance, cords, charging, misc. expenses etc...of gas or electric ones.
I bet that not a single Kwasi Kwarteng remembers this lawn mower.
ReplyDeleteNot Kwasi Kwarteng #1
Nor Kwasi Kwarteng #2
And certainly not Kweisi Mfume #3
It's enough to make you quasi queasy.
