“chicago (wls) — two women were wounded in a shooting at guaranteed rate field during the friday night game between the white sox and the oakland athletics, according to chicago police.
“a 42-year-old woman was shot in the leg and taken to the university of chicago hospital in fair condition, police said. a 26-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the abdomen, refusing medical treatment according to police.
“new video released by the white sox shows some fans in the bleachers appearing to look down at something, while others are unaware of what's going on. fans can also be seen standing in their seats, waving towards white sox staff, the video then ends. the sox said the activity was in section 161, near left field.
“watch: white sox release video of shooting incident during game
“Tom Miller, who attended the game, said that he was sitting two rows behind where the shooting allegedly occurred. he said he didn’t hear or see what happened but moments later a woman appeared to be bleeding from the leg. he said he believed two people, possibly three, suffered some sort of wound.
“‘it happened just two rows in front me, and there was no one in front of us. all of a sudden this lady just starts bleeding from the leg,’ Miller said. ‘there were at least two of 'em in a row that got hit, may be a third, but I know two for sure. and all of a sudden security was there and they kicked us out.’
“he said security then came and ushered them away from their seats and up to section six. he said they stayed there for 45 minutes.
“the white sox released a statement overnight writing in part ‘it is unclear to investigators whether the shots were fired from outside or inside the ballpark. the incident continues to be investigated by area one detectives from the chicago police department. while the police continue to investigate, white sox security confirms that this incident did not involve an altercation of any kind.’”
GRA: Outside, inside—probably both—or from an overhead blimp (chuckle). They’re trying to downplay it—as companies always attempt to do.
Shooting—but no one killed.
Shooting—but maybe from outside the park.
Shooting—it’s a rarity.
Rumor mill has it that Jerry Reinsdorf wants to move the team to Nashville, which would probably be a smart move. Sox Park is in a hellhole ghetto area. mex team the last few years, anyways.

N.S.: When corporate issues such a mealy-mouthed statement, they prove themselves to be completely without credibility. If there was no “altercation of any kind,” then it had to be from outside the park. Or they’re simply lying, and there was a fight, and then gunfire inside the park.
If the shooter was outside the park, you have to calculate how someone could fire a gun from outside the ball park such that the fire could hit people in that section inside the park.

ReplyDeleteGRA:Exactly. You're supposed to assume that you--as a fan--are safe within the ballpark, from gunfire OUTSIDE the park.If not,you might as well sit on 35th street, where Sox park is.

From the recent NYT obit of Joe Pepitone: "He claimed at one point to have turned Mantle and Whitey Ford on to marijuana, and in an interview in Rolling Stone magazine in 2015, he recalled that when he was with the Cubs, fans in the bleachers would throw packets of joints and cocaine at him in the outfield, and he would hide them in the ivy that covered the stadium wall... 'I loved Chicago!'” Something's been rotten in Denmark for a long time. And treated as if it were a big laugh. Now people have gotten the world they deserve. -RM
ReplyDeleteA plunging round from a long distance? Someone just firing a firearm just to firearm? A big bore caliber rifle?
ReplyDeleteWhat comes up must come down. I did like Joe Pepitone. His best years were behind him but he did have some good seasons wiff the Cubs.
Another reason not to go to baseball games. Besides them being long and mostly boring. And financing a lot of ghetto black and hispanic players.
