I'm watching a knuckleball game on Washington's Birthday
Posted on Feb. 16, 2005" Red Sox vs Killadelphia. Tim Wakefield goes 8 innings for the win. TV is really the best way to appreciate a knuckler. The camera work from center field or behind the plate, slo-mo replays, etc.
And they didn't play with the new, girly rules, such as starting the 10th inning with a runner on 2nd base.... I'll have to watch for bat flips. I don't recall that they were "in" at that time.
Back when I was a fan of the White Sox,Wilbur Wood--knuckleball relief pitcher, turned starter--took the hill--for both games of a double header in the early 70s.
ReplyDeleteKnuckleballers could do that.

As I recall, Eddie Fisher started both games of a double-header before he retired.
ReplyDeleteWilbur Wood was the best he was a throwback told in times the team that supported him however, was a big zero otherwise Wilbur would’ve been in one of the best baseball pictures of all time
ReplyDeleteThe only time I know that Eddie Fisher started both games of a doubleheader was when he "saw" both his wife,Debbie Reynolds and "girlfriend",Elizabeth Taylor on the same day.
ReplyDeleteDifferent Eddie Fisher--obviously.
Ultimately,he struck out with both dames.
