from the article:
In an article published Sunday, The Sunday Times paraphrased Patterson as worrying “that it is hard for white men to get writing gigs in film, theatre, TV or publishing.”
The Sunday Times quoted Patterson as saying the alleged problem is “just another form of racism. What’s that all about?”
“Can you get a job? Yes. Is it harder? Yes. It’s even harder for older writers. You don’t meet many 52-year-old white males,” Patterson told the outlet.
Tuesday afternoon, Patterson shared an apology on Twitter.
“I apologize for saying white male writers having trouble finding work is a form of racism. I absolutely do not believe that racism is practiced against white writers,” he wrote. “Please know that I strongly support a diversity of voices being heard—in literature, in Hollywood, everywhere.”
The percentage of writing credits by people of color in last year’s top 200 films had more than quadrupled since 2011, jumping from 7.6 to 32.3 percent, according to UCLA’s Hollywood Diversity Report 2022.
“People of color nonetheless would have to increase their 2021 share by about 10 percentage points to reach proportionate representation in this employment arena (42.7%),” the report reads.
In the United States, non-White people make up about 40 percent of the population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
I'd be curious to know what percentage of those "people of color" are black. If may well exceed their 13% population representation. I'd also be curious to know how many of those "poc's" are White hispanics and how many are not. As usual with these statistics, that kind of information is not given.
I have to wonder also if these numbers consider new upcoming writers and if you isolated in the under 25 yr. old age range, there would be disproportionately more poc writers than there are in the general group of writers. So what we may see in the future as writers age is reverse discrimination against White writers.
I wonder if what Patterson is also seeing is racial bias that is elevating mediocre non White talents and marginalizing superior White ones. I suspect he was trying to say that without saying it directly. He's just a writer though, if he had not apologized then publishers would have dropped him and bookstores would have stopped selling his books. Exactly what has happened to Scott Adams.
You don't need to be a genius to see our energy future. Government is pushing electric cars, government is pushing all electric houses. Meanwhile government is decommissioning power plants, destroying dams, enacting anti-fossil fuel policies. Solar power only works for about 5 hours a day--and that is on sunny days. Enough batteries to store solar energy for the other 19 hours--or weeks of cloudy days--will not exist for decades, if ever. Wind doesn't always blow. We are headed for a third world existence of power blackouts--and don't forget--the electric cars won't work either. The question isn't where we are going--that is completely clear. The only question is whether people will wake up before the disaster hits?
GRA:That's world war 3,if they do.I always said Biden was getting us into it.We would set up sanctions or cut off trade with China, which would send us(and the world) into an economic freefall. It's also part of a plan to engage the U.S. military in Europe, while China attempts to annex Taiwan officially.
(Feb 20,2023)BEIJING (AP) — Nearly one year after Russia invaded Ukraine, new questions are rising over China’s potential willingness to offer military aid to Moscow in the increasingly drawn-out conflict.
In an interview that aired Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said American intelligence suggests China is considering providing arms and ammunition to Russia, an involvement in the Kremlin’s war effort that he said would be a “serious problem.”
China has refused to criticize Russia for its actions or even to call it an invasion in deference to Moscow. At the same time, it insists that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations must be upheld.
The question now is whether China is willing to convert that rhetorical backing into material support.
That already happened in California, GRA... Our gas bills DOUBLED due to "unprecedented demand." This was after "governor" Newsom raised our electric rates 60% last year!!! Apparently those "green energy" unicorns didn't show up for the party and Newsom was left to buy electricity from everyone else. ...Everyone else saw Newsom coming, and we paid the price... I've yet to talk to ANYONE who voted for that moron nephew of Nancy Pelosi...

The first article is from Irish Indymedia. For those not familiar with it, Indymedia is supposed to be "media independent from corporate controlled news" and it arose after the 1999 Seattle WTO protests, a protest I actually agreed with because it was a statement against the globalist agenda, but as usual, got hijacked by leftists who scrubbed out the anti globalist elements and replaced them with their identity politics agenda. It was really quite clever, now any argument against globalism is the equivalent of being a racist. Unfortunately, Indymedia is dying off, while it is primarily operated and read by people with a leftist ideology, people on the far right would often jump in and argue. The articles were wide ranging and at times, addressed the issue of out of control globalism. Comment fields were free wheeling and usually uncensored, though at time you'd tweak some behind the scenes Wokester and they'd send your comment to the dustbin (you could still read it, just wasn't on the top page). Still, you could say things there you simply couldn't say anywhere else and get some lively debates going. However, the people that run Indymedia locations are losing interest, it's all volunteer and people have just lost the drive to show up and do the work. Portland Indymedia is now defunct and when you go to the national page with a list of locations, most are now broken links. Irelands is one of the few that is still active and I spotted the article there. I think it's worth a read.

ReplyDeleteFree speech as understood USA only here and no where else. They have a semblance of free speech but with limits.
