convicted army killer busted for 1974 execution-style slaying of two teenage boys

Murder victims Peter Zito Jr. and Don Barton or Bartron (the post reporter and her editors couldn't get the vic's name straight)

"A 65-year-old man who killed his army commanding officer over a disagreement was arrested for the 1974 slaying of two teenage boys.

"Criss, who had been living in iowa, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder, the department said."

That's ridic. The boy and the young man were killed execution-style. It was premeditated, first-degree murder.

Mug shot: Practically two years to the day after Zito and Barton/Bartron's murder, Steven Paul Criss murdered his army sergeant, Sgt. Jacob Kim Brown, to get out of paying for damaging the vic's car, with the same murder weapon used in committing the earlier double murder. Criss was sentenced to 35 years for killing his sergeant, but was only forced to serve 12 years. Detectives ought to be re-opening a bunch of cold case murders committed since then.

  1. Yup, they definitely need to start looking at some cold case unsolved murders where this guy was possibly involved. He had an auspicious start as a killer at 17. Highly doubt he took a break after he served his twelve years.
