See Richard Schickel’s Classic, 1973 TV Documentary, Raoul Walsh: The Men who Made the Movies, for Free and Without Commercial Interruption

Re-posted by Nicholas Stix

Raoul Walsh (1887-1980) made some 120 pictures during his 50-year-long, directorial career. He was famous for tough-guy pictures starring Errol Flynn (1909-1959), Jimmy Cagney (1899-1986), and Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957). His best ones were The Roaring 20s (1939), High Sierra (1941), The Strawberry Blonde (1941), Gentleman Jim (1942) and White Heat (1949).

Richard Schickel (1933-2017) was an immensely influential movie lover, critic, and historian of the picture business.

I just posted the following thank you note at youtube:

Thank you so much for posting this, joucy! When I was 14 or 15 years old, I used to watch this series religiously. I recently tried to buy the DVD, but there weren’t any. So, I bought the book version, and then found that you’d posted the videos. (The 1975 book arrived in the mail yesterday). Thanks again, God bless you!
