media “tells”: reporting White vs. black crime (the scrappy koala rule)

Contrast this article with a “White” motorcycle gang shootout one that was reported in the media a couple years ago:

Note that “gang” and “motorcycle gang” are prominently displayed in the headline and body of the article. Also is mentioned that the victim is “White,” which let’s us know this is probably a dispute between a “White” motorcycle gang.

When was the last time you saw that kind of detail in a black “gangsta” shooting? The article was only about 100 words long but there was more relevant information in this one than I see in much longer media reports about black shootings.

It’s one of those sneaky way the media slants reporting using race as criteria. black shootouts are presented in an anonymous way, while in the much rare White ones, they let you know the race one, way or the other.

Any wonder that the John Q. Public who gets all his info from the 5:00 news believes that mass shootings are a basically a “White” male phenomena?

N.S.: By now, following the scrappy koala rule, John Q. must know better.
