According to Sheriff Ed Gonzales, at approximately 6:40 p.m, 50 people were gathered for the vigil when a vehicle traveling toward Thompson drove by the location and began shooting.
What was the vigil about? -- never mind.
And look at the stories on the sidebar, e.g. this one about a dead white woman who was involved with a former black NFL player who's a 'person of interest' in her disappearance ('He was out on bond on an unrelated charge when she disappeared'):
