Officer Derek Chauvin Will Appeal Floyd Conviction (If He Can Raise Enough Money)

(breitbart) Fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin will appeal his conviction on charges in the murder of George Floyd, according to a court filing.

The associated press reports:

Chauvin said he intends to appeal on 14 grounds. Among them, he claims Judge Peter Cahill abused his discretion when he denied Chauvin’s request to move the trial out of Hennepin County due to pretrial publicity. He also claimed the judge abused his discretion when he denied a request to sequester the jury for the duration of the trial, and when he denied requests to postpone the trial or grant a new one.

Chauvin was convicted earlier this year on state charges of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s 2020 death. He was sentenced to 22 1/2 years – a sentence higher than the presumptive 12 ½ years after the judge agreed with prosecutors that there were aggravating factors in Floyd’s death.

Footage filmed by a bystander showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for roughly 10 minutes as a handcuffed-Floyd told officers that he could not breathe.

[N.S.: The time keeps going up. First, it was seven minutes and 46 seconds. Then it eight minutes and change, then nine minutes and change. In a year, what will they say? A half-hour?]

Chauvin stated that he presently does not have a lawyer assisting him with the appeals process, nor does he possess an income outside of his prison wages. The former officer also said he has no assets aside from a pair of retirement accounts.

GRA: GoFundMe, get busy.

N.S.: GoFundMe will screw him, but I heard of a new service that’s the GAB of fundraising. I’ll have to look it up.

Doesn't the police union have lawyers on retainer for such instances? Not for appeal? That colored cop got HIS sentence over-turned on appeal.

OH, there it is. The colored cop. All the lefty lawyers will run to the defense of the colored man.

His conviction on the count of 3rd degree murder was vacated -- per the court's reasoning, Chauvin's conviction on that count will also be vacated -- this is certain.

Noor (the 'colored cop') was also charged with 2nd degree murder, but was acquitted.

Chauvin was also charged with 2nd degree murder, but he was convicted -- since this is more serious than 3rd degree murder, he was sentenced on the 2nd degree count -- he is appealing his conviction for 2nd degree murder.

Given Noor's acquittal for 2nd degree murder, there are reasons to believe Chauvin's conviction on that count is questionable.

WI occasionally charge people with both 2nd and 3rd degree murder, which seems idiotic -- it is probably definitely political.
