Colonial Williamsburg Adds gay and "transgender" Re-Enactments
Colonial Williamsburg is bringing a slice of gay and transgender history to life this Fall.
Starting in October, a new musical called Ladies of Llangollen will be featured, based on diary entries, letters, and poetry of two women who ran away from Ireland and eloped in Wales during the 18th century.
The Colonial Williamsburg foundation created a Gender and Sexuality Diversity Committee in 2019 with the purpose of researching gay and transgender issues in the colonies. The result of the committee found multiple instances of lesbian and transgender people in the early years of America's founding.
The question in front of the researchers that framed the committee was: "What is the Western population's view on sexuality and gender and how did they determine who was a man and who was a woman?"
The goal was to piece together a more complete history of gay and transgender people in colonial times, according to the Virginia Gazette.
According to researcher Ron Tolson, more gay and transgender men and women were accepted than expected in Williamsburg.
Tolson gave multiple examples of transgender and lesbian couples in the colonies and Europe. In one case, a woman who requested a marriage license to another woman was rejected and was told marriage was only between a man and a woman. She came back the next day with a haircut and dressed in men's clothing, and the license was approved.
"It's not that the information isn't there, it's that it hasn't been properly researched and a lot of other groups are overrepresented in the historic record," Tolson said. "We just assumed that people had similar ideas as current day and moved on but that's not entirely the case."
Another example was of an indentured servant named Thomas Hall, who was born Thomasine in England. At the age of 22, Hall joined the British Army and moved to Virginia under the name of Thomas. Hall wore both men's and women's clothing, and when suspicion arose from neighbors, there was a court case. The verdict of the case was that Hall was both a man and a woman.
The research was not without its challenges. Because this was not the dominant narrative, reports were buried, and alternative language was used. This meant researchers had to decode the language and learn a whole new set of terminology. Additionally, there were many fires at courthouses in the 17th and 18th century which destroyed a lot of court cases.
The research is still ongoing, and Williamsburg said they have plans to introduce other gay and transgender programs to their itinerary.
"What is the Western population's view on sexuality and gender and how did they determine who was a man and who was a woman?"
ReplyDeleteGRA:If they have to do research to determine that, they might as well pack it up.(Hint:It has something to do with reproduction and genitalia, hormones etc.)

ReplyDeleteGetting closer to mandatory vaccine requirements: https://www.foxnews.com/health/covid-czar-employees-vaccine-requirement
Biden's "Covid Czar" Jeff Zients wants businesses to mandate vaccination as a condition for employment. I've been expecting this to happen, my place of employment just sent out an email that required employees to disclose their vaccination status. I checked off on the "I don't wish to say at this time" box. Sometime this year I won't be the slightest bit surprised if I am fired and have to come up with another way to support myself.
It's insane to force people to take a vaccine that's only function is to reduce symptoms, it does not create true immunity or stop you from being infected and being infectious. Plus, if you are a young and/or very healthy person your likelihood of severe reaction and/or death from the vaccine is the same as if you contract the disease. That's not even secret, even the CDC has told us that, but it's media hysteria that rules the mind of the general public, not facts or reason.
I've noticed the media campaign has shifted toward hospital ICU's being swamped with youthful Covid patients and it's causing a shortage of space so therefore people are dying because young people "won't get the vaxx". There's been several news features about that on the evening news but I am doubtful.
My dad has been in and out of outer East Side Providence hospital and I was just in the inner city branch myself for a checkup. I asked various people if there was a problem getting into ICU and every one said "We have Covid patients but we are not short of beds".
My brother actually works for Providence, which he likes to lord over me acting like he has "inside info" though he works in the Admin branch and is not directly involved in the health care part of the hospital. I asked him about it also and he became evasive, which means "no" the hospital is not "swamped with Covid patients". OK, not exactly scientific research but I don't see how the biggest hospital in East Portland could be avoiding this epidemic of "young" Covid patients.
Next will simply be a federal mandate to get vaccinated and states/governors that won't play along will have federal money withheld and whatever other punishments they can inflict.
Tattoo's for non vaxxed? Concentration camps if you don't get yearly shots? Fines, refusal to grant loans or accept money for services? Public stocks where non vaxxed are publicly humiliated? Vaccination teams backed up by vaxx Gestapo asking for your papers and forcible shots if you don't have them? It's White middle class people that will be the primary targets for these SS tactics though, migrants and those of "color" will be treated much more leniently. Guaranteed.

ReplyDeleteOr perhaps illegals are why certain hospitals are overwhelmed with patients: https://www.raptureforums.com/politics-culture-wars/bidens-covid-infected-illegal-aliens-are-stealing-hospital-beds-from-americans/
Maybe they could include the true account of General Washington having a homosexual officer expelled from the army.
