So, no worse than a bad flu season.
Nope. Not at all. The worst flu season of the last decade killed an estimated 508 people in one day. Last Saturday 1300 died of Wuhan Virus. And the death toll is still growing. People persist in comparing the deaths from an entire season of flu to those from just a few weeks of Chinese Wuhan Virus. So people are dying more than twice as fast as from the worst flu. Wait a few months, if it doesn't fade, the numbers will be staggering.
ReplyDeleteI wore a mask today--one of many I was given at a hospital years ago, when visiting someone during an epic flu season. The hospital handed out quite a few at the time,so I had 10 of them left. It's the first time I wore one for the COVID scare--no biggie.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if this mask protects, but better than nothing for getting some odds and ends at a grocery store.
I see the stock market is rallying on the idea that NYC had a good day--lower deaths than the previous day.If the S&P can stay over 2478,it might just rally to 2800 pretty quickly.Just my two cents all.

Every day I look at the Washington State death toll in the hope that it will go down--yesterday was 28; hasn't started down yet. The hope is that "social distancing" will work, but it seems to me that if it does and people go back to normal activities, it will just start up again--as it looks like it is in China with the "Second Wave." I hoped warm weather would stop it, but seeing that the Wuhan Virus is in Brazil, that seems less likely. Perhaps herd immunity will stop it if it is true that vast numbers of people have it with few or no symptoms, then the Virus should come up against a wall of immune people. If hydroxychloroquine does indeed have a prophylactic effect, then giving it to a large proportion of the population for a month should work. Unfortunately a large number of people ranging from bureaucrats, to media people, to politicians don't want that to happen. The CDC and FDA are largely responsible for this disaster as they held up testing until the disease had spread widely. These bureaucrats are still screwing things up--a new at-home test has been developed but we read that the FDA won't approve it for probably 2 months. It is outrageous that "free" people cannot have any kind of test they want. Our lives do not belong to the FDA--we should be able to go to a drug store and get any test we want. We need a revolution in patient power. Our lives belong to ourselves--not to government, big pharma, or the medical establishment.
