More Hate-Mongering, More Distortions, and a Proposal that Must be Rejected
January 19, 2019 More Hate-Mongering, More Distortions, and a Proposal that Must be Rejected Statement from Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, CEO and executive director of MomsRising, an online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on President Trump's remarks on a border wall this afternoon: "President Trump's remarks today and the proposal he outlined are an insult to everyone who wants our policies and spending decisions to be based on actual facts and realities. He once again told bold-faced lies designed to stir up hostility and hatred toward immigrants and asylum-seekers, and to try to force Congress to pay for his wasteful, destructive, unnecessary wall. "We can't forget that President Trump himself created the crises that DREAMers and TPS (Temporary Protected Status) recipients are facing. Offering merely a temporary, limited respite to the pain and disruption he is causing them is hardly a meaningful concession. "Shuttering the government over a manufactured crisis at the border has created an actual crisis in the lives of hard-working families across the country. Some 800,000 federal workers, their families, and hundreds of thousands of federal contractors have been without paychecks for almost a month -- while they still have to pay for housing, food, medicine, and childcare. And the inhumane, immoral treatment of asylum-seeking families is the only true humanitarian crisis occurring at our southern border. "Moms and families across the country are suffering terribly because President Trump has shut down the government in an effort to bully Congress into paying for a wasteful wall the country neither wants nor needs. We all support border security, but we want our tax dollars to be spent in smart, effective ways. Congress must reject this proposal out of hand. America's moms want the government to reopen, all workers to receive their pay, and every immigrant and every asylum-seeker to be treated with compassion, dignity and respect." # # # # MomsRising.org is an on-the-ground and online grassroots organization of more than a million people who are working to increase family economic security, decrease discrimination against women and moms, and to build a nation where businesses and families can thrive.
