Eddie Muller's Film Noir of the Week is on hiatus during August while TCM has its annual Summer Under the Stars.

On August 1, TCM has 24 hours of Frank Sinatra movies, starting at 6 a.m. ET with Double Dynamite (1951), followed by High Society (1956).

For prime time Wednesday night, The Man With the Golden Arm (1955) is featured at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Some Came Running (1958), Suddenly (1954), and perhaps Sinatra's biggest film, From Here to Eternity (1953), at 2:15 a.m. ET early Thursday morning.

  1. On Saturday, August 4, TCM features Clint Eastwood in its Summer Under the Stars. At 10:15 pm ET, Coogan's Bluff (1968) is scheduled. Coogan's Bluff stars Eastwood as an Arizona cop who comes to New York City to bring back a fugitive (Don Stroud).

Lee J. Cobb is a NYC detective skeptical of the Arizonan and keeps calling him "Tex." Tish Sterling plays Stroud's druggie girlfriend who helps him escape. Susan Clark plays a social worker type who catches Coogan's roving eye. This movie isn't shown on TV very often. A brutal fight scene was cut out of early 70's network showings.

James Edwards has an effective cameo as an undercover cop.

Coogan's Bluff shows NYC in the late 60's. The finale has a motorcycle chase in Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park.
