What Did the Home Run Crash Mean to the Mets?
By Nicholas Stix
Answer: Nothing.
During last night’s 3-2 loss to the San Diego Padres, in which Jake deGrom (6-6, with the world’s lowest ERA, 1.71) pitched eight innings, and gave up two earned runs (really only one), and three total runs, with RF Jose Bautista and SS Amed Rosario both making errors that led to San Diego runs, Keith (Mex) Hernandez and, I believe, Ron Darling were talking about last year’s club and this one.
Darling noted that the Mets were built in both seasons to hit home runs, but that they have not hit home runs this year.
Hernandez: “Last year they hit home runs, and lost 92 games [70-92].”
