TCM's Film Noir of the Week at Midnight ET Saturday Night/Sunday Morning is Hollow Triumph (1948), starring Paul Henried and Joan Bennett.
Henried plays a crook who robs a gambling joint and is the only one of his gang who survives the attempt. He goes into hiding and concocts a plan to kill a psychiatrist double and take his place. Joan Bennett is the psychiatrist's mistress who falls for his impersonator.
Hollow Triumph repeats at 10 a.m. ET Sunday morning.
N.S.: I apologize to David for not getting this up in time.
I watched it tonight on DVR. Hollow Triumph is disjointed and doesn't make much sense. Joan Bennett delivers a noirish piece of dialogue: "It's a bitter little world."
ReplyDeleteTCM's Film Noir of the Week at Midnight ET Saturday Night-Sunday Morning is The Narrow Margin (1952). This is one of the best, starring noir icons Charles McGraw and Marie Windsor, directed by Richard Fleischer.
ReplyDeleteMcGraw plays a Los Angeles detective assigned to guard a mobster's widow who's traveling by train to LA to testify against her late husband's crime partners. Early on, McGraw's partner is shot, causing McGraw to rage at Windsor, who seems a nasty piece of work, what McGraw expected in the wife of a mob boss.
Jacqueline White plays a high class lady also riding on the train. McGraw is afraid she might be caught in the crossfire. The story is fast-paced. Richard Fleischer was skilled at getting a lot of action in a 70-minute film with several plot twists.
The Narrow Margin repeats at 10 am ET Sunday morning, May 6.
