This is a man who was born to perform before a live audience. Although he's cutting a record, and thus cannot be the "saloon singer" that he called himself, the presence of a tiny audience of insiders elicits some Sinatra stage business just for the civilians bearing witness. And now, we get to bear witness, 52 years later!

"September of my Years"album, which I purchased many years ago,for a couple dollars at a used record store.Franks 50th birthday reflexion.Poor guy--he was about to marry Mia Farrow.
ReplyDeleteTrying to remember, without looking at the album, but Nelson Riddle conducted the orchestra,I believe.
That particular song was the standout of the album.
Listening to it for the first time,in my 30's--some 20 years ago--it felt like September as the record spun on my turntable.
I'd be willing to bet a couple dollars that very few blacks have this in their record or CD collection...lol.

Actually,it was Gordon Jenkins who did the orchestrations on the album--had to go look.

GRA,
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense that it would be Jenkins—Mr. Strings. Thanks for looking it up.
