How many times has the average American hear the myth, whereby “man is the only animal that kills, for killing’s sake”?
Lions kill other lions, for killing’s sake.
Japanese macaques do it.
Now we see alligators doing it.
Something tells me that many other species do it, as well.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Media General) - The body of a 2-year-old boy who was taken by an alligator at a Disney resort in Florida has been found, the local sheriff said Wednesday afternoon.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said dive teams found what they believed to be the remains of the child within the immediate area where the boy was last seen. Demmings said sonar equipment and other means were used to find the body.
The child, 2-year-old Lane Graves, is the son of Matt and Melissa Graves of Elkhorn, Nebraska.
Demings said the child's body was found intact in the water. He said there is no reason to believe the body is not that of the missing child.
The family said they appreciate the prayers of everyone and the job done by law enforcement to recover their son so they can move forward.
The sheriff said he believes the child was drowned by the alligator.
The SOP for alligators is to kill their prey and then take them down to the bottom of the lake, swamp, irrigation canal, whatever and stick the prey on the bottom so it won't float away.
ReplyDeleteThen they leave the prey there to decompose for a while. And THEN the gator comes back and enjoys a proper meal.
So that's why they found the kid intact at the bottom. The gator was letting it "marinate" so to speak.
Oh. How I love to gain knowledge... most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that this child was killed by an alligator. It sounds like a horrible way to die, and his family must be truly miserable.
ReplyDeleteBut at the risk of sounding uncaring, I'll say that this episode shouldn't distract us from other terrible things going on elsewhere in the world, including Orlando, Florida. I think evil Muslims, illegal immigrants, and corrupt politicians are a bigger threat to our nation than alligators.
I was born in Florida and have tread though a good bit of swampy Florida. The Wild Life and Game folks there issue warnings that there is not a body of water in Florida that does not contain alligators.
ReplyDeleteThat poor little fellow. He never had a chance.
I read what Fisk said in Jean-Pierre Hallet's book years ago. He said it about crocodiles, though. But it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteDeport evil Muslims, illegal immigrants AND especially corrupt politicians and killer alligators. Now if Trump said THAT,he'd win in a landslide.

The issue is that alligators cannot chew or tear flesh. Their teeth are only for catching prey. Therefore, they can only eat small prey immediately.
ReplyDeleteThose parents need to be charged with murder. They killed that kid just as surely as Casey Anthony killed her kid. Their story is exactly analogous to parents who claim they put their kid down inside the grate of a gas fireplace with the gas turned on and a book of matches. "Oh heavens", they later cry, "we lost poor Johnny to a horrible accident!"
ReplyDeleteEvery idiot knows Florida is *infested* with gators. Every tourist shop in Orlando sells little stuffed baby gators and gator jaws and gator skin crap. There are roadside attractions every quarter mile with crackers wrestling gators. Every golf course has gators out sunning themselves and every body of open water says, "No Swimming!" On top of all that, every Disney property has a deluxe swimming pool with water features for the kiddies and a big ass fence around it to keep gators out.
It would be like Nebraska, their home, had a million and a half mountain lions running wild and some idiots let their kid play outside at night wearing a coat made of steak.
You've raised a kid through toddler stage, would you let baby Stix splash in the pond, at night, in central Florida? It's beyond inconceivable isn't it? And this is more egregious than the negro who let her kid enter the gorilla habitat in Ohio. That kid was old enough to decide on his own to try to get inside, this kid had to be put into danger by his parents.
