Only Love Can Break Your Heart
Words & Music
By Neil Young
When you were young
And on your own,
How did it feel
To be alone?
I was always thinking of
Games that I was playing,
Trying to make
The best of my time.
But only love can break your heart,
Try to be sure right from the start,
Yes, only love can break your heart,
What if your world should fall apart?
I have a friend
I've never seen,
He hides his head
Inside a dream.
Someone should call him,
And see if he can come out,
Try to lose the count [?]
That he's found.
But only love can break your heart,
Try to be sure right from the start,
Yes, only love can break your heart,
What if your world should fall apart?
I have a friend
I've never seen,
He hides his head
Inside a dream.
Yes, only love can break your heart,
Yes, only love can break your heart,
Yes, only love can break your heart,
Yes, only love can break your heart,
Yes, only love can break your heart….

“Only Love Can Break Your Heart”
Album: After the Goldrush
Year: 1970
Track 3 of 11
1970 Warner Bros. Records Inc.
I thought when I saw this Neil Young had died.I must have 15 of his albums."Down by the River","Cinnamon Girl""Sugar Mountain" from his 1970 album was fantastic.Buffalo Springfield got me started-I think- and I went on from there."Rust Never Sleeps" obvious as a choice, but too many good ones to mention and a couple clunkers as well..Listen to his stuff now on YouTube mostly.Still excellent rock and roll.He had a 23 minute song on his next to last album with Crazy Horse.Lots of psychedelic guitar jams on that one.

ReplyDeleteIf you like this song then run, don't walk to a cd store (or order online) and pick up a copy of "Comes a Time", as much as I love his first run of classic albums that's the NY album that monopolizes my playlist. It's his most pastoral lp and blends rock, pop and country beautifully. Don't get distracted by Old Ways, the other album that's supposed to be a countryish one, it had a couple of decent tracks but was a clinker.
I'm a fan of Neil Young myself. "After the Gold Rush" is probably my favorite album. In addition to Neil's other hits on that album, pleas don't forget "Cripple Creek Ferry" and "I'm Gonna Give Ya 'til the Morning Comes", the last two tracks on both sides of the album. They're both really sad and beautiful. They were too short to ever make on the radio. But these two songs stole my heart when I first heard them.
