New York City: Crane Collapse in Lower Manhattan Kills One, Injures Two or Three, Destroys Half-a-Dozen Cars (Photos)

Re-posted by Nicholas Stix

This story has dominated local coverage this morning. The crane was being used at 40 Worth Street, home to Weill Cornell Medical Associates. First reports said that no one was killed, but they were unfortunately wrong, or someone has since succumbed to his injuries. A line of parked cars was totaled. Local news readers’ assumption was that the cars were empty at the time of the collapse, but they may have been overly optimistic.

Worth Street is between the area by the federal immigration building at 1 Federal Plaza (near the financial district) and Chinatown, in Tribeca.
