Willow, Weep for Me
Words & Music by Ann Ronell (1932)

Willow, weep for me,
Willow, weep for me,
Bend your branches green,
Along the stream that runs to sea,
Listen to my plea,
Hear me, willow,
And weep for me.

Gone, my lover’s dream,
Lovely summer dream,
Gone, and left me here,
To weep my tears into the stream,
Sad as I can be,
Hear me, willow, and weep for me.

Whisper to the wind,
And say that love has sinned,
Left my heart a-breaking,
And making a moan.

Murmur to the night,
To hide its starry light,
So none will see me sighing,
And crying all alone.

Weeping willow tree,
Weep in sympathy,
Bend your branches down,
Along the ground, and cover me,
When the shadows fall,
Hear me, willow,
And weep for me.

Oh, weeping willow tree,
Weep in sympathy,
Bend your branches down,
Along the ground and cover me.
When the shadows fall,
Hear me, willow,
And weep for me.

In Google’s endless quest to degrade public discussion, it has made it increasingly difficult to post literate comments on its youtube threads. Many, if not all threads make it impossible to copy and paste comments that one has carefully written and re-written, thus favoring mindless jottings.

Below, I have published a youtube comment to this recording, and the response I had hoped to post to it at youtube.

Cody Jarrett 4 years ago in response to @saintcruzin

@saintcruzin lol, Sinatra's version owes everything to Riddle's outstanding arrangement, not his singing.

N.S.: With all due respect to Nelson Riddle, may he rest in peace, you’re a psycho, Cody! Then again, I knew that, long before reading your vercockte opinion. Would I say that to your face? Of course, not! I want to live many more years.

“Top ‘o the world, Ma!”
