I thank the old friend who sent me this.
Opening paragraph in a piece by Carl Cannon at Real Clear Politics:
It’s easy to make fun of the Washington Redskins. First, they’ve been a lousy football team for many seasons. There’s also the team’s disgraceful name. Half the sportswriters won’t even mention it. It’s more than insensitive. Mere mention of it qualifies on today’s college campuses as a “trigger warning.” And such an easy thing to change! In homage to where they actually play, how about the Prince George’s County Redskins? FedEx Redskins might work. Who can blame the team for not wanting to be associated with a city synonymous with dysfunction?
What about the Cleveland Brownskins? Has a nice thud to it.
