The superlatives you’ll see on the screen—they’re all true. My chief of research and I recently watched this masterpiece about war, cameraderie, and love again, and it lost nothing with a repeat viewing. When this picture was released, it was probably the greatest movie ever made. If it seems familiar, that’s only because King Vidor has been ripped off a million times.
Although the picture has long since gone into the public domain, I was recently shocked to discover that no one has uploaded it to Youtube.
