U.S. Store Traffic Sinks 21% as Last-Ditch Deals Flop

By Nicholas Stix

Thanks to reader-researcher RC for the story below. He writes,

Appears that the “recovery” is stillborn.

Just like Obamacare.

Can the buffoon in the White House do any more harm to this country?
Yes. Things can always get worse.

“Obama” and his media sycophants have been smugly asserting that we’ve been in a recovery since 2009, and yet, food stamp usage is exploding. As someone recently pointed out, in a recovery, food stamp use would be shrinking.

Last year, the MSM claimed that Christmas sales were bringing in record amounts. I didn’t believe it, because shoppers had no money, with which to make those record-setting purchases. My hunch was that the media were doing this, in order to make good PR for “Obama.” However, that they are now bringing bad tidings doesn’t fit that picture. I don’t know what to believe, beyond knowing that there never was a recovery.

Fewer Americans hit the malls the last week before Christmas even as retailers from Macy's Inc. (M) to Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. (KORS) poured on the discounts. U.S. store visits plummeted 21 percent and retail sales dropped 3.1 percent in the week through Saturday, signaling a lackluster finish for stores' most important selling season, Chicago-based researcher ShopperTrak said yesterday. Retailers including Neiman Marcus Group LLC were offering as much as 75 percent off, and some, including Macy's and Kohl's Corp. (KSS), were keeping stores open around the clock starting Friday. "The numbers are a bit scaring," Bill Martin, ShopperTrak's co-founder, said in an interview.

  1. Has there ever been a time when the retail stores said they were doing well, sales were ahead of expectations and everything was great. NO such sentiments EVER expressed.
