New charges against two men police say were involved in a June shooting at a Des Moines park have been added.

Des Moines police say 24-year-old Floyd Ezell Jr. and 18-year-old Taylor Gruis were arrested in connection with a shooting that injured Trevon Young on June 5th. Young was shot in the wrist and the ankle at Jordan Park, near Lovejoy Elementary.

Ezell was originally charged with willful injury causing serious injury, and Gruis was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

Following a July review of the case by the Polk County Attorney’s Office another charge was added. Gruis and Ezell now face charges of attempted murder in addition to the willful injury causing serious injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon charges.

Gruis was 17 at the time of the shooting but the charge of attempted murder is a forcible felony, meaning he is automatically charged as an adult.

Gruis and Ezell are scheduled to go to trial on the charges on October 7th. They are currently being held in the Polk County Jail.

  1. 10 % of Des Moines is now negro. That 10 % is usually associated with what they call a "tipping point". Lesser than 10 % and the negro population is usually under control and mayhem so typical is held to a minimum. Beyond that 10 % number and a dramatic escalation of mayhem begins to occur. Strength in numbers and all that.
