So, my boss rips off ISU and Iowa taxpayers for nearly $100K (that they knew of; actually much higher), and all she gets is two-years probation and partial restitution (($30K)? And this guy gets $56K restitution and 15 months hard time for whacking a few trees? Next time he should take his little axe and go after the trees of Terrace Hill or something; less risk than messing with the feds, apparently.

A central Iowa man has been given prison time for cutting down more than two dozen black walnut trees.

U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt said Randall Todd Walker, 50, of Des Moines was sentenced this month to 15 months in prison. He also has been ordered to pay more than $56,000 in restitution.

Walker pleaded guilty of removing a total of 32 trees from property belonging to the Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The trees had been located in the Neal Smith National Wildlife Reserve in Prairie City, the downtown Riverside area in Des Moines, the Sycamore area in Polk County and the Lake Red Rock area in Marion County.
