    I noticed that my own branch of oligopoly (Charter) recently vastly increased its internet speed across all tiers (so much so that I finally had to upgrade to a Dual Band N router) and slightly decreased the cost.

    Why?

    For the answer to that, all I have to do is look to the other side of the state: Google Fiber is now available in Kansas City. Which means soon it will be available here. Now, I may ordinarily say in a snarky way that offering gigabit tiers to Kansas Citians is like casting thine pearls before swine, but at least it's making the oligopoly sweat. And in more ways than one -- Because the Google Fiber pipes are gigabit, this means they also offer TV service because there's enough bandwidth for TV, and an even bigger advantage is that Google Fiber has no monthly bandwidth caps, and I think those are a function of the oligopoly being in chahootz with the copywrong extremists:
