OKLAHOMA CITY -
Prosecutors filed first-degree murder charges against Luis Ruiz and Jimmy Massey Monday afternoon, nine months after police discovered Saunders' body in a duffle bag in Bethany in October 2011.
The State Medical Examiner previously determined Saunders' cause of death was a "violent death," and denied a release of the autopsy report due to its graphic nature. Despite the M.E.'s decision, new court records reveal several details of how the 19 year old died; much of it is too graphic for broadcast.
In the probable cause affidavit filed against Ruiz, investigators suggest a woman, who referred to herself as Ruiz's girlfriend at the time of the murder, says she witnessed the torture and killing of Saunders. The woman is quoted saying, before the murder she would "babysit" a girl named Carina Saunders and that Ruiz said Saunders would be "dealt with."
The court document shows Ruiz admitted to an acquaintance he killed Carina Saunders.
The document also suggests the murder took place in a house at 3500 South Harvey.
News 9 reported in June police were looking at a vacant lot at that location as the possible crime scene, but the house was reportedly demolished the same day police discovered Saunders body.
The document also suggests Ruiz had video of the murder on his cellphone, but Bethany police previously confirmed for News 9 they have not been able to obtain a video. They question if a video truly exists.
Bethany police booked Ruiz into the Oklahoma County jail on one count of first-degree murder on July 5 after he was arrested for stealing clothes from a Sears store in southwest Oklahoma City.
The other man charged, Jimmy Massey, was arrested in November 2011; one month after Saunders was murdered. Massey has been held in the Oklahoma County jail on drug charges until now.
Police told News 9 Massey admitted in November to having information on Carina Saunders' murder, after a witness came forward saying Massey kidnapped her and forced her to watch the murder. The witness believed the crime was an attempt to scare her and other women into cooperating with a human trafficking operation.
Massey reportedly confessed to his role in the murder while writing letters to another inmate at the Oklahoma County jail.
Until now, most search warrants and affidavits have been sealed in this case.
We are developing new information in this case and will have more for you coming up on News 9 at 4, 5, and 6.

OKLAHOMA CITY -
Two men accused of torturing and killing Carina Saunders, then dumping her body in a duffel bag behind a Bethany grocery store, appeared Tuesday via video in an Oklahoma County courtroom.
Luis Ruiz and Jimmy Massey are both charged with first-degree murder in Saunders' death. A judge read the charges against them Tuesday morning during a video arraignment. Massey swayed back and forth and announced his name with a smile. Ruiz stood still and only said "thank you" at the end of the arraignment.
Their next court date was set for August 9.

[The following article, from New York’s Daily News, is as bad a botch of a story as you’ll see in a major American newspaper. It misidentifies both suspects as “Oklahoma County Sheriff,” a job John Whetsel has held since 1997, while identifying witnesses whose names were blacked out in affidavits. The bad guys already knew who they were, but why would the News want to make things worse?]

The final autopsy report has been released for an Oklahoma teenager whose mutilated body was found behind a supermarket last year.
Carina Saunders' body was found decapitated with her hands and feet sawed off in a duffel bag in Bethany, just outside Oklahoma City, last October. The butchers who killed the 19-year-old tried to remove a tattoo on her back to further prevent officials from identifying her.
Dental records identified the teen's remains. Her cause of death was listed only as "violent death" from homicide.
"The body parts were wrapped with plastic wrap, a laundry bag and a duffle bag," the report said. The head and neck were in one plastic bag. Parts of Saunders' chest and abdomen including part of her thighs and arms "with no forearms including hands" were in another.
"There is a tattoo on the upper back showing rectangular cut marks, in attempt made to remove the tattoo," said the report. The tattoo read "Kween Spade."
Oklahoma County Sheriff [sic] Luis Ruiz, 37, of Oklahoma City, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder last month.
There were also "suspicious contusions over [HER] right cheek and [ON THE] back of [HER] right shoulder," evidence of the cruel torture of the young girl before she was slain. [The past three bracketed notes were added by the Daily News.]
Initial reports of the girl's horrific slaughter sent shockwaves across the country. Records say she was beaten, tied to a table and one of her feet was sawed off while she was still alive. The two murderers even made a cell phone video while they sadistically killed Saunders in front of two women they were trying to intimidate.
Luis Ruiz, 37, of Oklahoma City, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder last month. Jim Massey, 33, also from Oklahoma City, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in December last year.
Oklahoma County Sheriff [sic] James Massey, 33, from Oklahoma City, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in December last year.
Police initially believed the savage killing was related to a human and drug trafficking ring, reported the Oklahoman. They have since abandoned that theory.
Michelle Hanshaw, one of the women present for the grizzly killing, told police that she escaped by jumping out of a window as Ruiz failed in his first attempt to saw Saunders' foot off.
Tia Downour was sharing a hotel room with Ruiz in May when she watched the video on the slaughterer's cell phone, identifying him as the man with the saw. "Downour said she watched for a few seconds until Saunders began to scream," wrote Bethany Police Lt. JR Jencks in an affidavit.
Toxicology results showed Saunders had the prescription painkiller Tramadol in her system but did not mention the quantity.
Though Massey initially denied taking part in the murder, saying he kidnapped one of the women forced to watch, he later bragged to a fellow inmate about his participation. Giving details about the murder not yet made public by officials.
Both men are still in custody awaiting trial.

! Concerning the Luis Ruiz case..
ReplyDelete* * The news portrays him to be something else but I have news for the news.. ., how can you shatter someone’s reputation when there is not & never had there been that year-old new evidence.? Luis E. Ruiz was wonderful in reality & had so many wonderful qualities within him!!
Luis Enrique Ruiz is a spectacular guy! Wish I only got to see him again. He was a ‘Schoolteacher’ once & the news makes it seem like he ever stopped. He still did so much for those who couldn't & he still was that learning figure. He did plenty for others but he was silly & would never ask for anything from anybody! He like to do it on his own!
Luis's life was nothing like they made it out to be. A bad guy was not what he was! He liked to cruise SW 29th street every Sunday evening & he showed me that it is somewhat a Mexican tradition. You always have to shine up your rim’s first, . We would wash his truck, then shine up those rims, because you have to have pride in how you take care of your car. I thought it was Awesome! Each Sunday reminded me of that same old ‘Sooner Pride’ I felt during game time in Norman. I could feel the Mexican pride myself!
Luis Ruiz did everything he could for those in his neighborhood, including his friends. He gave all he had to everyone each day. Unfortunately I seen all these same people continually accuse him, or bad-mouth him, or show little gratitude for anything. I seen him do much for someone just that day but I’d see him have to turn around & pay to use their shower. Many would not turn around & repay a favor let alone just be a friend back to him!
Luis looked out for all those in his neighborhood some way or another. Many around there had no electric and/or no water since one or the other had been turned off because they couldn’t afford to pay it. Twice I was with him when he went by one of these houses to just drop off some pizza's for everyone there & then got up to leave!
Luiz taught me bunches & that WAS the person I knew!
That person I will take after still & that person we will remember always!!
“LUIS RUIZ” WAS A GREAT GUY & HE NEVER WILL BE ANYTHING ELSE TO ME!
I LOVED HIM,
HOW HE VIEWED THE WORLD,
&.. . (His Heart).Sworn to be true this day of Aug. 9th,
S. Privett
I first took notice after the known arrest of 'Luis Ruiz' on July 5th of this year which had first stated of this witness & as to this video seen which I guess through luck this guy was still carrying this phone used from the 2011 killing of 'Carina Saunders' & he had been keeping this video of that brutal day close by on his cell phone. This statement made by later known to be 'Tia Downour' was seen on that phone as he showered at the motel they had purchased together & she watched this & noticed Luis Ruiz to be the man on it slicing on this girl & through this statement & affidavit brought forth we were able to bring up Murder 1 charges! Well not one piece of evidence towards that was found or shown to of & we are STILL awaiting discovery by the state
ReplyDeleteThat phone was my phone as I see it which I may of given him just days after I bought it but whether I let him borrow, or gave, it was also my phone & I felt insulted by the fact that someone stated they seen this on my phone. I bought that cell phone near but maybe days before April had come about & it was the phone that he had & THE ONLY PHONE during the entire month of April & May 2012. And I can swear this!
STACY PRIVETT of Oklahoma city, OK
INVESTIGATE THIS: Luis Ruiz was in jail those dates of October 11th & released early morning October 12th.. .
ReplyDeleteIf you wanna check into your investigator skills then find where in October of 2011 "Luis Ruiz" was in jail. Which he was indeed pulled over & taken to jail for a warrant on the day of Oct. 11th & released the next day Oct. 12th. Figure out this scenario now & remember to take into account it takes hours before ever booked in or out in Oklahoma county & check out the area of where his car was when he was pulled over.. .
I'm a pretty pony clipity clop
ReplyDeleteStacy you always were a poor judge of character. Really? He shines his wheels and cruises 29th and you hung out with him so there's no way he could have done this terrible thing. BTK attended church regularly. And who says the cell phone had any service. Maybe he just used it for videos.
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing. I met one of his students that he taught years ago. She is a beautiful successful woman now. But back when she was just a cute school girl he molested her. Again just hearsay. But why would she lie about it now. She had nothing to gain by telling me.
ReplyDeleteWho is Nicholas Stix??? Who is Steve Utash?? Why are we being asked to fund Steve Utash??? I don't understand who you guys are to my niece, Carina. Do you want to explain to me what this is about??????? - Patti Chesser 405-549-1352
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you about a case I worked on because back then I was too messed up with not believing that there could be such a thing as police conspiracies. When I wrote what i wrote on the internet it was solely because I knew that arrest was wrongly done & somehow I felt like I needed to speak up.
ReplyDeleteIn the Luis Ruiz case the system falsified the evidence that they blasted all over T.V. announcing that they had. This was to show the public they had a reason for that arrest & if you make people believe it then you can usually get away with it . !. They knew that it was fake & at one point i know this led all the way up to the District Attorney office & David Prater himself.. who even signed those papers & gave them that warrent for arrest knowing these facts.
During this case does anyone remember the story i had written in "'before the news'".? The one titled "Investigate this" & it shares the fact that on that date that girl was killed that Luis Ruiz was incarcerated & that the reason i knew of this was.., because i had actually learnt that from the Bethany officers themselves before they arrested Luis for that murder.".
In that case I had learnt that the reason it goes from one place the girl killed., to another place the girl was supposedly killed at., is because the cops were raiding houses & busting them without warrents by using that case for the reason they were able to so. (Because they have to make it look good to the public). Whoever thinks just because its on the news then its true, is stupid,.
At one point I knew that everyone knew these facts listed on that arrest warrent were fake & there was none of those things they stated they had, but yet they were not letting him out of jail.. Luis told me that they told him that they could not let him out until after elections. Come to find out that David Prater at that moment was fighting a case they called the tea party event & it included Luis Ruiz's lawyer, David Chance,.. I guess they needed this case to help that & I guess everything the government does is really for elections.
When they arrested someone for that murder they stated there was evidence which was not there & that warrent was still signed by our District Attorney David Prater. In order for David Prater to save his ass they fired those 2 police officers but I am sure they get paid leave. Because thats how the government works. Its all politics.
The government & the news is about manipulating the public for thier own power & they keep themselves up but also keep the lower class down. This is what that causes.
