Murder victim Jessica Tetter was only 16. She was found beaten to death in a Hammond, Ind. trash bin. (Handout)
Suspect John Hurt, 27, is in custody; he was the on-again, off-again boyfriend of the vic’s mother. If he’s the perp, something tells me he has a long history of violence. His newest mug shot comes from the Calumet City police, which is interesting in itself, considering where the vic was found. Unless he’s not the perp, in which case his being back on the Illinois side of the state line makes perfect sense. Note, however, how he proudly holds his head up high, a pose that I increasingly see in mug shots of black male arrestees charged with heinous crimes.
Teen Girl from South Suburbs Found Dead in Hammond, Ind. Trash Bin

HAMMOND, Ind. (CBS) -Friends on Saturday remembered a 16-year-old Calumet City girl who disappeared this week before her body was found in a Hammond, Ind. trash bin a day later.
Jessica Tetter was found at 5945 Hyslop St. in Hammond on Thursday — initially as a “Jane Doe.” She died of trauma to the head and body, said the Lake County, Ind. Coroner’s Office, which identified Tetter.
A person of interest is in custody with Calumet City police, and is someone known to Tetter’s family.
Friends the teen held a vigil in her memory on the track at Thornton Fractional North High in Calumet City. Tetter was on the track team and also boxed, friends say.
“People thought it was so funny because she was so small,” Kathryne Sneed told CBS 2’s Suzanne Le Mignot.
Tetter was reported missing on Wednesday by her mother. Tetter’s mother said the girl left their Calumet City house around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and did not return. Calumet City officers searched the area without results.
Officers from the Hammond Police Department provided a photo of a Jane Doe girl found in the trash bin, attempting to obtain an identification. A Calumet City investigator noticed a resemblance between Hammond’s Jane Doe and the nearby Illinois city’s missing girl.
[Thanks for this story to longtime reader-researcher AL, who writes, “Whoever did this crossed interstate lines while in the commission of a murder, so it is a fed case,” and who in a separate note noted, “This may be a death penalty case. Fed level or if the murder was committed in IN it might be death penalty. IN does have death and does execute.]

Murder and concealment of a homicide charges were brought late last night against a man who had a relationship with the mother of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found this week in a dumpster in a Hammond, Ind. alley, authorities said today.
John Hurt, 27, of the 600 block of Wentworth Avenue in Calumet City, was charged last night with one count of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide, according to Calumet City police Capt. Dan Zorzi. Hurt's bond was set at $1 million by Judge Israel Desierto today in Cook County Bond Court.
Hurt had an "on again off again" dating relationship with the mother of the victim, Jessica M. Tetter, Zorzi said.
Tetter, 16, also of the 600 block of Wentworth Avenue in Calumet City, was pronounced dead at 7:40 a.m. Thursday on the scene in a dumpster in the 5900 block of Hyslop Place, a spokeswoman for the Lake County, Ind., coroner's office said. Tetter suffered head and body trauma and her death was a homicide, she said.
Tetter was reported missing by her mother the night before, according to Calumet City police. About 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to her home where Tetter’s mother told police the girl had left the house at 11:30 a.m. that morning and did not come home, police said.
Police learned she was not a habitual runaway and began canvassing the area without any luck finding her until Hammond police had a break in the case.
At 6:02 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the Hyslop address where they recovered the body of an unidentified "Jane Doe," found her description matched that of the missing girl, and were able to identify her.

I am not surprised she ran away a lot. She had to get out of the house when her mom brought predators home. The mom was probably jealous of any lustful attentions her f buddies paid to her young daughter and made the girl pay for it. It's just a crying shame.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that you can't read!!! The article stated that SHE WAS NOT a habitual run a way! Too busy with ignorance!
DeleteSmhh. true to that, but yea it is obvious that you cant read. But its just crazy how rude you are and dont even know what your talking about smfh! my friend just got killed and this is whats on your mind? Smh Cme on , hve some RESPECT and SYMPATHY. Gosh...
DeleteShe was not a habitual runaway, dumbass.
ReplyDeleteThe article said she was NOT a habitual runaway
ReplyDeleteJessica Tatter, the victim, looks like a light-skinned black female. I wonder if her mother is White? The mother brought evil and her daughter's killer into the home.
ReplyDeleteI hope the basterd dies b/c tetter didn't deserve this. NOBODY DOES
DeleteWhat difference does it make about her ethnic background?
DeletePeople need to learn to read, I see.
ReplyDeletePlease pray for Jessica'a family and friends, Because your wright evil is all that was. That was a child. She did not deserve that!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have more sympathy than you all. What did you do to prevent this atrocity, if you knew the girl. She was murdered by a snake her mother invited into the house in order to fulfill her selfish impulses. Never let a strange man be around your daughters!
ReplyDeleteA few other things you scum sucking enablers, Jessica had complained of her mother's boyfriend's inappropriate touching last year and her mother still let him be alone with her daughter. Out effing rageous. The man raped her anally and vaginally, beat her and murdered her. Her mother is as reponsible as the murderer is.
ReplyDeleteFor those who are leaving ignorant statements. Jessica was accepted into the nursing program at TFNorth. She was the average teenager. She loved her family and was always taking care of her brother and sister. She did not deserve to die. She was a child and John Hurt sick ass is a grown man.
ReplyDeletePlease don't speak bad about things you don't know. Her color has nothing to do with it she was a child!
yes, but the man should not have been allow but into the home she was crying out for help and I know this young lady
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad.. He is gonna rot in Hell for what he did to this girl.. R.I.P Jessica ur an ANGEL
ReplyDeleteI wish God would just erase ignorant people like Miss Carnivorous off the face of the earth. He or She is no better than the scum who committed this crime. Ignorance is alive and well. What does color have to do with this crime. Ridiculous
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, when did I mention color? I never did, because I care just as much about the rape and murder of this young lady as I would cate about a girl of any color. You feel guilty, so you imagined I mentioned race.
DeleteI THINK THE MOM SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL ALSO.
ReplyDeleteThe mother had to know Nd ignore the signs..I have two daughters and if they ever even suggested a man that I brought into the home it would be my mugshot.
ReplyDeleteU do not care about this girl or u would not have said such mean things. If u care so much why don't u donate money to help bury her. That would show caring for this child. This wasn't some guy the mother met off the street she had a child with this man. This child is not a baby either. The guy wasn't a registered sex offender either. How is saying the mother was jealous of her showing u care? I think u are a horrible person. There were mistakes made, but I know that mother loved her child. What about the police that wouldn't make the police report or put out an amber alert until 9 at night? That shouldn't have happened either. This family will never be the same. This girls brother and sister will never be the same.

ReplyDeleteYou talk like a politician. “There were mistakes made”? What kind of English is that? Politician’s English, that’s what, where you use the passive voice, in order to deflect responsibility. Specific people make mistakes. As in, “the murder victim’s mother made mistakes.”
Talking about how this girl came to be murdered when she could have been saved is “mean”? Let me tell you what is mean, lady. Mean is when a person responsible for protecting you sexually fondles you, and looks at you, day after day, like you’re meat in your own mother’s house, and has you terrified, and then one day rapes you, rapes you again in your butt, and then strangles you, so you can’t go to the police a second time. And tosses you in a dumpster, like garbage. And mean is when the person who gave birth to you failed to protect you from your killer, in spite of your pleas. That’s mean!
But you’re sure to use the active voice when talking about the police, even though the girl was long dead, before they ever got a call.
And then saying that a person is obligated to send money to the person whose irresponsibility cost her daughter her life, just to show that she cares? You’re the horrible person here. On second thought, the word I’m looking for is despicable.
I'm a little late to this sad story I feel for the friends and extended family of this very beautiful girl I however cannot feel for the mother who allowed this to happen even after being told of the advances her boyfriend/husband or on again off again lover were making toward her daughter I agree with some readers that the mother should be held somewhat responseable for this heinous crime the suspect whatever happens will get whats coming to him in this life or the next I deeply feel for the people that knew and loved this girl

If it made no difference to you, you wouldn’t be upset about anyone mentioning it. So, her ethnic (racial) background is very important to you, as is suppressing it.
She was mixed.
ReplyDeleteJessica went to my school, and she will be truly missed :( She was cool with everyone, and you always saw her smiling. R.I.P Jessica :(
Look just grieve for this child and let her be. Don't blame the mother dumbass. She didn't know and it's not like they left together, she left, he stalked her, then he kidnapped her. There were no other incidents on file from ANYONE of the three parties. And yes, Calimet City Police Department, with their corrupt ass should have issued an Amber alert immediately. Hell 9 hours later it's too late!
ReplyDeleteMy cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
