No-Show Policing, Triage, “DADT”: An LA Reader Explains How the LAPD Has Conquered Crime

I don't know about "national crime statistics" but I'll tell you how things work in LA CA, and how they suppress crime statistics in Los Angeles.

You're a crime victim, you call the cops (not 911) when and if they show up (most crimes they won’t show up) they'll take a report (maybe if they have time), and maybe they'll do a "weak" investigation (When I say "weak" I mean a cursory visual inspection of whateva and no fingerprints or collection of evidence), that's it.

If the police don't show up to take a crime report you cannot file a report over the telephone or online, you have to go down to the station to file a report.

LAPD doesn't pass out crime reports like the DMV passes out license & registration forms, you have to wait for an officer to take your report, the officer asks you questions and fills in their form for you-(which you're later supposed to sign).

I don't know about the rest of the city but the police station in my area is staffed by 1 desk officer, who fields phone calls, manages the local facility and takes crime reports -in between, the "wait" when I last checked was over 2 hours to file a crime report.

Needless to say I didn't file a report and neither did the 12 other people that came in and left during the 45 minutes I waited for my turn to file a crime report and decided it wasn't worth the 2 or 3 more hours it would take to document my theft for the purposes of documenting crime statistics.

If you call the police in a 911 attack situation they're likely to arrive after whatever incident has occurred and ended (but in huge force), you will however still get excellent ambulance/paramedic care in most incidents in my area of LA (for now).

Even in violent attempted murder assaults (Brian Stowe Dodger beating) the police don't bother collecting DNA evidence, LAPD sorta has an unwritten DON'T ASK DON'T TELL policy when it comes to crime reports as well as immigration status.

I'm guessing if the police were compelled to collect and accept online crime reports America would have an instant crime explosion or at least an apparent crime explosion.
