An arrest warrant was issued today for a man charged in the slaying of his new bride a day after the two were married, police said.
South suburban Burbank police obtained the warrant in the slaying of Estrella Carrera, 26, seeking the bridegroom, Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, of the 4200 block of Mozart Avenue in Chicago, on murder charges, police said in a news release.
The couple was married Friday in Chicago's City Hall. After the wedding, a group of friends and family had dinner in the city, boarded a rented limousine and spent the evening at a nightclub on the North Side of Chicago.
Carrera and Jimenez were last seen by family about 4 a.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, Carrera was found stabbed to death in a bathtub in her Burbank apartment after family members requested a well-being check after Carrera failed to pick up her two children and no one could reach her or Jimenez.
Carrera was found wearing a silver, sequined cocktail dress, the same dress she wore during the celebration Friday.
“This investigation is still ongoing and will continue until Mr. Jimenez is in custody for this brutal murder,” police said in the release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Estrella Carrera and especially her small children”
Jimenez was last seen driving a 2006, Maserati sedan. He is described by police as 6 feet tall and weighing 220 pounds.
Jimenez was charged in 2003 with domestic battery, but the complaining witness did not show up in court, according to court records. He also has a conviction for deceptive practices, court records show.
Jimenez is the father of Carrera’s youngest child, a 2-year-old son. She also has a 9-year-old daughter.
The couple’s wedding was a spur-of-the-moment affair, relatives told the Tribune Monday.
“She didn't want to tell me she had gotten married,” her cousin Sandy Lopez said Monday. “She didn't tell anybody besides her father the day before.”
Carrera and the man had an on-and-off relationship for about three years, according to relatives.
“This just happened out of nowhere,” another cousin, Jaime Lopez, said Monday regarding the wedding. “It was so fast I couldn't even make it to the celebration.”
Today, before the announcement of the warrant, Carrera's family declined to comment. They could not be reached for comment following the announcement.

Ah, yes. Another one of those "white Hispanics" I see.
ReplyDeleteIf you wanna see an actual White Hispanic thug, google the name Heriberto Viramontes. Learn what that punk did.
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDeleteI've covered Viramontes at least once.
Not sure I see the point of posting this on this site. Is there any evidence there are higher rates of husband murdering their wives in the latino community? They happen with disturbing regularity in the white community also. I like most of the articles here but don't see the point of this one.

ReplyDeleteFirst off, one of my reader-researchers sent it to me.
Second, it's a hot story, which is probably why he sent it, and promised to get me a pretty good number of hits, which it has.
As to your point, my impression is that this sort of murder is much more common among Hispanics than whites, although among Hispanics it is usually the man the woman left to marry someone else.
In any event, when a woman shows up dead (excepting an old widow), the police immediately hunt up her boyfriend, husband, and every ex and spurned, would-be lover they can find, because that group is where the murderer most often is to be found.
With that said, I should probably run a lot more such stories, but do them better than TV true crime (e.g., Investigation Discovery) does.
Anon says, "They happen with disturbing regularity in the white community also."
