Congratulations to the “New York” Giants, who won their fourth Super Bowl, and second in five years. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is now a sure bet to end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
The heroes of the game are Giants quarterback Eli Manning, wide receiver Mario Manningham (stunning, 38-yard sideline catch during the Giants’ winning drive) , defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, defensive tackle Justin Tuck (first quarter safety off Tom Brady), linebacker Chase Blackburn (pick off Tom Brady near the goal line), and running back Ahmad Bradshaw.
The goat was Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez who, choked and dropped an easy reception that Brady put right in his hands during the Pats’ final drive. I expect the game MVP Award to be given to Manning again, who this time, unlike four years ago, earned it.
(My sidekick thinks the MVP trophy should go to Manningham.)
P.S. Since both head coaches in this game, Bill Belichik and Tom Coughlin, were formerly assistants to Giants head coach Bill Parcells, this was the Parcells Bowl, with Bill Parcells bound to be on the winning side, no matter which team won.
The Patriot receivers had the dropping disease tonight. Wes Welker dropped one that would have given the Patriots a first down around the Giant 25 with a 17-15 lead and 4 minutes left. It was a tough play but Welker had it in his hands and you have to catch those with the Super Bowl on the line.
