Detroit: No-Name Clearances of No-Name Murders
The AP/FOX story below is from 16 days ago, and has been sitting on my pc for a while. I’ve pulled it back after numerous shutdowns, because I didn’t want to lose it.
What to make of it? Since the story names no victims or suspects, it is impossible to judge its veracity. A Google search of the phrase “nine people were wounded and six killed” turned up 2,370 hits, including an August 16 Fox story that provided no names, and which the August 18 AP/FOX story below cannibalized.
As we have repeatedly seen over the past almost 20 years (here, here, here and here), a big city police department can send out press releases saying anything it likes.

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say they've closed the fourth of six gun homicides that happened during one 24-hour period over the weekend.
From 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, nine people were wounded and six killed -- including a 16-year-old boy.
The shootings led mayor Dave Bing and police Chief Ralph Godbee to step up police patrols. Police have enacted 12-hour patrols and say they're putting officers on the street at times and places where they'll have the biggest effect on dampening gun violence.
Police told The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press on Thursday that they've obtained a warrant for one suspect. They've now arrested two people and closed four cases.
Police also arrested an 18-year-old man in the accidental shooting of a 14-year-old that happened later Saturday.
