Knoxville Horror victims Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom
[NS: Late Thursday afternoon, my reader-researcher David in Tennessee sent me the following update on the Knoxville Horror, the racist, January 6-7, 2007, carjacking, kidnapping, gang-rapes, torture and murders of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.
The “house” David refers to was the house at 2316 Chipman Street, Knoxville, where the atrocities were committed, and which has since been razed, and turned into a memorial to the victims.
The trial in question was that of George “fuck that white girl” Thomas. It was the third murder trial for the atrocity, following those of half-brothers
Letalvis Cobbins (sentenced to “life plus 100 years”) and Lemaricus Davidson (sentenced to death). One more murder trial, of Vanessa Coleman, is scheduled for May.
At least six people have confessed under oath to having aided and abetted the killers, but have not been charged and, based on DNA evidence, two other rapist-murderers have yet to be identified.]
Today, Judge Richard Baumgartner gave George Thomas consecutive life sentences (see also: here) for his role in the Knoxville Horror.
The judge made some notable comments. He said the house was so small there’s no way Thomas wouldn’t have known what happened. He also said Thomas is as guilty as the others convicted: Cobbins and Davidson.
Jamie Satterfield’s twitter informs us the judge also told the families he knows their pain but can’t take it away and described the crimes as “unspeakable.” The judge told Thomas:
“This idea you had a bad childhood, I read in presentence report you say you had a fine childhood.”
As I write, a pre-trial hearing is going on for Vanessa Coleman. In view of the judge’s comments while sentencing Thomas, I wonder if Coleman’s attorneys might now try to get Judge Baumgartner removed. It would delay the trial for possibly a year.
[N.S.: Since I stand a better chance of getting elected president than a racist black killer does of dying in prison, a sentence of “life, plus 50 years” translates racially into, “He’ll be inside a while.”]
Knoxville Horror murderer George Thomas is the one wearing prison stripes.
None of us have commented on this story since it appeared a couple days ago. I don't think it's because nobody is reading it, or because we don't care about the victims and their families. Personally, I'm almost struck speechless.
ReplyDeleteThe thought that Thomas, and one of his previously-sentenced buddies, might get out of prison some day, in spite of their "life" sentences, makes me sick. It's also revolting that others who had complicity in these crimes will probably never see justice in this life.
My comments aren't that insightful or helpful: please pardon me. But the feeling that one of us had to say something came over me, so I was moved to write.
Dixieman here. I have to agree with the above poster. I have read almost every story about the Knoxville Horror, and it turns my stomach every time. Why ALL of these worthless criminals involved in this heinous act not been strung up yet is beyond me. The sheer barbaric acts that these people committed is more than worth a trip to the gallows. I would also once again like to thank all of the mainstream media for all of their coverage of this story. If the races had been reversed, you would have seen it every night on Nancy Grace, Jane Velez-Mitchell, Greta van Susteran, etc.....
ReplyDeleteIt's simply disgusting. All that we can hope for is that their time inside is a living hell.

It's bad enough that so many "Life-PLUS" sentences are being handed out (James Byrd's killers got death), but THIS is perhaps the most troubling aspect in all of this, "based on DNA evidence, two other rapist-murderers have yet to be identified..."
ReplyDeletebased on DNA evidence ?
ReplyDeleteis grave
