The Music of Integration: With Apologies to George and Ira Gershwin

By Nicholas Stix

I say “tomato,”
And you say, “Racism!”

I say “potato,”
And you say, “Racism!”

“Tomato,” “Racism,”
“Potato,” “Racism,”
Let’s call the whole thing off!

  1. Quite so. It's off, for my part. Raised in a good liberal family to tremble at the idea of being thought racist, I've acquired the slow immunity of experience. I no longer care. In fact, the opposite is true; I see the world clearer than ever, a world of cowed whites and race hustling non-whites, working the system for gain. It's liberating, and it's spreading. Thanks Nick.
