Prosecution rests in Daniel Penny trial, but not before medical examiner threw out her professional integrity, and became a shill for the prosecution
Summary from various news outlets (including abc7 and fox news).
GRA: dr. Cynthia Harris wrapped up three days of testimony monday, during which time she referred to the incident as “a homicide”—which was then stricken from the record—after an objection by Daniel Penny’s attorney.
Other evidence given, during the eight days of testimony by prosecution witnesses included: Jordan Neely had drugs in his system—most likely cocaine—though dr. harris’ listed cause of death for Neely—asphyxiation—was declared before toxicology reports came back. It was also revealed that Neely had sickle cell syndrome, which dr. harris rejected as being a contributor in the cause of death.
Defense witness testimony started late monday and is expected to end by Thanksgiving.
My opinion: When the medical examiner is onboard with the prosecution in such an unabashed manner, it makes the case difficult for the defense to win. Their opinion carries a lot of weight—even if it’s erroneous in its conclusion (see Chauvin case).
