Re: your comment on the poor writing. Note TWO names in the by-line, Steven Vago and Katherine Donlevy. Yes, of course, both have journalism (ooooh! aaaah!) degrees, cuny and suny.
I think that if I owned a newspaper, I’d give preference to applicants with degrees in old-fashioned, traditional, boring areas: English, History, Philosophy. Checking transcripts, of course, and asking questions to see if they knew anything, particularly Western Civ. They would have a solid base; the professional journalist skills would follow naturally. “Journalism” should be a couple of elective courses, not an entire program.
And if Bob Woodward disagrees, good; it means I made my point.
N.S.: A journalism degree is to determine one’s political loyalty. Those who show any intelligence or decency are run out of j-schools, just like with ed schools.
All today's journalists need is a cheerleading outfit with a donkey sewn on it for proper effect.And a queer flag and blm monogram.

Of course Stix is right (as usual). Years ago I knew a woman who got a job at a newspaper--she was told not to think she could work her way into a writing position--only people with journalism degrees were allowed to write. Society is plagued with credentialism. Think of the famous writers in the past who had no journalism degrees, or the greatest architects of the 20th century who had no architecture degrees--some no degrees of any kind. Now you can't even become a librarian without a degree in library "science." Some of this is guild socialism--an effort to keep out competition, but I think it is also an effort to make sure people are properly brainwashed by the leftist scum who have taken over universities. Employers need to start hiring smart people with no degrees to depower the leftist gatekeepers.
