UPS DELIVERS A PLANE CRASH IN LOUISVILLE,7 DEAD SO FAR,11 PROBABLY WISH THEY WERE
(CNN) MD-11 plane: A UPS freight plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Louisville airport, leaving a fiery trail of destruction through businesses and roads where a massive plume of thick black smoke now stretches for miles, videos from CNN affiliate WAVE show.
• Reported fatalities and injuries: At least seven people have died and 11 were injured, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Tuesday, warning those numbers could climb as the investigation continues. Beshear said earlier some of the injuries are “very significant.” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg wrote on X this evening that the city has “every emergency agency responding to the scene.”
• Status of crew unknown: Beshear said the status of the crew on board the plane is still uncertain and they are working to reach impacted families as soon as possible. “Anybody who has seen the images in the video know how violent this crash is, and there are a lot of families that are going to be waiting and wondering for a period of time,” he said.

UPS PLANE SHEDS AN ENGINE TAKING OFF IN LOUISVILLE;DEATH TOLL UP TO 12 FROM WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARDS
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board said that an engine detached from the UPS jet involved in the deadly Nov. 4, 2025 crash.
Late Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Andy Beshear said an 11th person has died and that one of the victims is a child. Later, Mayor Craig Greenberg confirmed a 12th person has died.
Spokesperson Todd Inman also said the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder have been recovered. Inman said both of the so-called ‘Black Boxes" suffered from heat but did not sustain intrusion from the crash or the resulting fire.
The aircraft involved in the accident was an MD-11F, with registration number N259UP was manufactured in 1991.
According to Inman, the plane was cleared for takeoff on Runway 17-R (Right). After receiving clearance, the jet began it’s takeoff roll when a large plume of fire was seen coming from the left wing.
Inman said he has seen airport surveillance video showing the left engine (Engine 1) detaching from the plane. That engine was found on the airport grounds.
The aircraft lifted from the runway and cleared a fence at the end before striking structures outside of the airport property. The impact of the aircraft left a debris field approximately 1/2 mile in length.
