May this glorious shutdown last for weeks, months, even all the way through the '26 elections!
republicans: continued a $2 trillion deficit from Biden/Harris spending levels. Even with added tariff revenue. Even with Trump's layoffs and firings. Even with cutting waste the doge kids found. The onebigbeautifulsh*tsandwich bill.
democrats: waited until the last minute to demand a ransom, make it $3 trillion to save obamacare, nobody should have to actually pay the shared responsibility payment.
"The shutdown limits the damage congress can do. Maybe even reduces the deficit. Almost as good as the "congress insurance" shtick that Rush Limbaugh used to do.
"Yeah, everyone knows the republicans will cave. We'll end up on closer to $3 trillion than $2 trillion, hooray, free obamacare for everyone! Probably sooner rather than later. But I'm enjoying the moment while it lasts.
C'mon, Mr. Trump, let's get going on these "mass firings" we've been hearing about. Before you lose your nerve. We want sob stories on cbs news about dedicated government employees who can't afford the fixin's for Thanksgiving dinner this year.

"long, grueling standoff" begins--let's see
GRA: Media pundits are usually wrong; let's give them another chance to prove it again.
"Washington, oct 1 (Reuters) - the U.S. government shut down much of its operations on wednesday as deep partisan divisions prevented congress and the white house from reaching a funding deal, setting off what could be a long, grueling standoff that could lead to the loss of thousands of federal jobs.
"there was no clear path out of the impasse, while agencies warned that the 15th government shutdown since 1981 would halt the release of a closely watched september employment report, opens new tab [?], slow air travel, opens new tab [?], suspend scientific research, withhold pay from U.S. troops and lead to the furlough of 750,000 federal workers at a daily cost of $400 million.
GRA: A week--tops? Or could they push this a whole month?

P.T. is threatening "mass firings". Lawyers in the D.C. area are rubbing their hands in anticipation of it.
