So "Red" Eddie is a Republican?(kidding).Red state is GOP and blue is Dem. How did democrats get those colors reversed since the 50s and 60s. I thought years ago,GOP was blue.
TCM shows some good ones Monday Night. At 8 p.m. ET, The Sting (1973). Double Indemnity (1944) at 12:15 a.m. ET. The Asphalt Jungle (1950) at 2:15 a.m. ET.
In between is Bonnie and Clyde (1967) at 10:15 p.m. ET.
On election night in 1976, the networks showed the GOP carried states as Blue and the states the Democrats carried as Red.
Communists have long been known as "reds". As the Democrat Party became farther and farther left, the media obviously didn't want to clue the public by identifying them as reds. They also claimed to be "liberals"--although real liberals believed in freedom--not the state control the Democrats want. I believe the Russian code name for Russian agent Alger Hiss (sp?) was "liberal." I think the same thing happened during the Russian Revolution. The reds labeled the anti-communists as the minority--even thought they weren't. But labels worked and pretty soon they WERE the minority.
I did a read through on wikipedia and they said, cbs,in 1984,switched the red and blue. There was no set pattern with individual networks using blue or red for whatever reason they felt like. After 2001,everyone decided on blue for dems and red for republicans, though republicans were not backing it. In 2014,California's GOP--unhappy with the red designation--switched to blue.
Basically the networks switched it,with cbs(the commie network at the time) doing it first.

That's what I thought,David. Any idea on how that was switched? Did the networks do it? I can't see the GOP agreeing to that--or any reason why?
