Chicago police officer shoots man with knife at forest preserve on Far South Side, police say

    By Todd Feurer

    Updated on: February 28, 2025 / 6:34 PM CST / CBS Chicago

GRA:What caliber bullet did he load into the chamber of his knife?

(cbs noise)A Chicago police officer shot and critically wounded a man armed with a knife Friday afternoon at a Cook County Forest Preserve on the Far South Side.

Police said, around 1:45 a.m., an officer assigned to the 4th (South Chicago) district and Forest Preserves of Cook County Police responded to a call of a man with a knife chasing another person in the Eggers Grove Forest Preserve near 114th and Avenue G.

Cook County Forest Preserves police said a man had called to report another man with a knife had threatened him and chased him. The man who was being chased was not injured.

When the officer arrived, police said the man with the knife "quickly advanced" toward the officer on foot. The officer tried to put distance between himself and the man with the knife, and de-escalate the situation, but the man with the knife kept coming toward him, prompting the officer to shoot him once(with his own knife, lol).

    GRA:Slow night tonight.
