Happy George! Happy Magic!
By N.S.
One of the many Washington legends, but a true one, concerned the battle of the Monongahela, on July 9, 1755 in which indians observed the lieutenant colonel get two different horses get shot out from under him, and repeatedly shot through his coat, without the balls ever hitting his flesh. The injuns said words to the effect that this man had magical powers.
"Washington the Soldier," by Reǵnier (1834), "depicting Lt. Col. Washington on horseback during the battle of the Monongahela"
"Washington Crossing the Delaware"
I assumed the magic was the commies making George Washington disappear from our history on his day. He deserves more than that.

One of the Indian chiefs present at the Battle of the Monongahela spoke about the battle in his later years. He said his warriors were told to kill Washington but were unable to hit him.
ReplyDeleteWashington also survived riding between the American and British lines at the battle of Princeton in 1777, when both sides were firing at each other at a very short distance. Washington was unharmed.
Like Trump--charged so many times with the hope of locking him up so he died in prison and then attempting to kill him twice--yet he didn't break down, didn't give up and with the media, government, and so many institutions against him, continued to fight, fight, fight--until he won big. Now he is continuing to fight for this country better than any president in my lifetime.
ReplyDeleteHe's like a tornado so far. I had hoped he'd be just like this--and even more. He's in serious danger.

I looked up the Battle of Monongahela, which got me perusing other Washington material. I knew very little about Washington,as it turns out. Jefferson was jealous of Washington,#1,and they didn't speak the last several years before Washington's death in 1799. That was strange too, being G.W. was very healthy until catching some sort of virus(they say from wearing cold, wet clothes)and dying two days later of some form of acute epiglottis infection--a swelling of the back of the throat that prevents swallowing. I've never heard of THAT either, but interestingly--for me--in October, last year,I caught a tremendous cold,of which the first symptom was the worst sore throat I ever had--trouble swallowing(with a hot, burning feeling in the back of the throat) during the night. I had to get up and drink water and walk around a while and things improved quickly--within an hour. I went back to sleep and the next day, those symptoms evolved into a full blast cold for two weeks--but no more throat problems after the first night. The cold never went into my chest though, just my nose dripped like a faucet. Later,I found out, this was "going around",as I talked to a few people in November. According to the web, epiglottis infection is a life threatening illness and only antibiotics can help, but I got through, whatever it was, very well.
