Latif Williams, sought for the murder of Temple Student Samuel Collington, has surrendered to Philadelphia police. Williams had been arrested for attempted carjacking last summer, but was released when the victim did not show for a court hearing.

ReplyDeletePer the history at the link I previously posted, he was 'released' from custody, allegedly to home confinement, a few days after his arrest in Aug -- per the same article, sometime later charges were dropped at the request of prosecutors after count no-shows.
I include and highlight at the request of prosecutors because this can also be seen as a kind of 'prosecutorial discretion', i.e. maybe another prosecutor or DA would have decided it was still possible to continue the case -- ?
But of course in the tradition of 'lazy justice', which most notably includes plea bargains (they are actually more the norm today for criminal cases), it was easier/less work for everyone to drop the charges, despite their seriousness.
