My brother [...] is a researcher at Pitt. He has an undergrad degree from Hopkins. He graduated medical school at Yale with a combination M.D. and Ph.D. Did his residency at Washington University, and then on to Harvard for a post-doc. One of his professors at Yale was the father of Nobel Prize winner Michael Gilman.

Our late mother was a homemaker and then a cafeteria worker in a local public elementary school. She used to catch uneaten apples and other fruits that black kids on public assistance used to toss in the trash as they were leaving the cafeteria.
I estimated at one time that all nine of us children had hundreds of years of education combined among all us.
