CENTRAL MICHIGAN WHITE QUARTERBACK IMPROVING AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE CHEST BY "A GROUP OF PEOPLE" (Detroit free press)
Two men were shot at an apartment complex a few miles from the Central Michigan campus in Mt. Pleasant early Saturday morning.
Isabella County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to shots fired at East Deerfield Road in Union Township around 1 a.m. Saturday.
There, they found two men in their early 20s suffering from gunshot wounds, and both were transported to hospitals. According to CMU president Dr. Bob Davies, 23-year-old CMU senior Tyler Bunting and 20-year-old CMU quarterback John Keller are the victims. Bunting, who was airlifted to a hospital, was initially listed in stable condition and Keller in serious condition by the Isabella Sheriff's department, but that was updated Sunday afternoon.
"The two men that were injured in the shooting off campus yesterday are recovering," the ICSO said in a release.
Law enforcement said the shooter(s) fled the scene and are still at large, with no one in custody.
According to the Sheriff's press release, someone(GRA:almost guarantee he's black) went to a vehicle during a fight at a party, retrieved a weapon and then started firing at the party.
Keller, 6 feet 1 and 203 pounds, sat out the 2020 season after transferring from Cincinnati, where he spent one season in 2018 as a walk-on from North Canton Hoover High School in Ohio. He then attended Pearl River Community College before committing to CMU in 2020.
Bunting, according to his Linkedin page, is majoring in psychology and minoring in marketing.
