I'm an RN who has worked in isolation units with diseases like TB, MRSA, Bubonic plague, hantavirus, VRE and other infectious diseases.
There are only 19 BSL-4 (Biosafety level 4) containment units inside the US. BSL-4 containment units have their own air supply, lab facilities and water/sewage treatment facilities.
Any hospital that does not have a BSL-4 containment unit, is placing their staff, patients and visitors at risk.
This Ebola outbreak is acting like no other outbreak in the history of the disease; it has also lasted longer and spread further than previous outbreaks. No amount of screening will prevent Ebola (and now Marburg Hemorrhagic virus) from entering the US.
Fevers can be masked by cheap, over the counter drugs and passengers can lie about their contacts and possible exposure.
The US must stop all air travel to and from West Africa. The US also has open borders and we know that illegals are coming from around the world to cross our Southern border.
A rocket landed miles away from the Tel Aviv airport and Obama immediately halted all US air travel to Tel Aviv, but the threat of an epidemic of the most virulent pathogen imaginable and air travel is allowed to continue?
Last week Obama signed an order suspending for 2 years, the deportation of any Liberian here illegally. His reasoning was that it is too dangerous to return these illegals back to their own country.
The CDC and our government classifies Ebola and other hemorrhagic viruses as Class A bioterrorism agent.
